FAQ's...

Q: How long does a negative mark stay on my credit report?

A: The credit bureaus keep information on your credit report for 7 years. Some states have special provisions for collections and paid liens. chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcies are each reported for 10 years, and chapter 13 bankruptcy is reported for 10 years, both measured from the date of the filing. But, remember that collections get resold and renewed before the 7 years are up and then they are newly reported on the bureau. That is why it is necessary to acquire the Equifax monitoring system.

Q: Why do Credit Bureaus not want me to use a credit repair company?

A: The credit bureaus will tell you that it is easier and less expensive to do it yourself. While it may be true that you have the right to repair your credit yourself, many individuals do not have the time, experience and organizational knowledge that is necessary to deal with companies. You must also spend hours of study to gain a working knowledge of the consumer laws available to you. Many people who start out trying to repair their own credit give up and go to a credit repair company after months of work on their own.

Q: Can I repair my own credit?

A: Yes. You have the right to dispute your won credit with the 3 bureaus. The amount of time this will take depends on your initial credit status, your dedication to review your credit report and prepare letters to all of the bureaus, and also your knowledge of your credit rights. You can also hire Credit Repair Express to work on your behalf. We have the staff, the systems and the know how to speed up the repair process.

Q: What do I need to be doing while you repair my credit?

A: Bring in all your credit reports and any investigation reports that you might have. Also you need to let us know if you have any positive items that are not showing on your credit reports so that we can add them – this will improve your credit score. If you get any paperwork regarding your credit please fax, email or drop it off at our office. Be Patient!!! Try not to have your credit checked while we are working on your file.

Q: How often should I be getting updated reports from the bureaus?

A: You should get updated reports about every 45 days. Sometimes however the bureaus use stall tactics which makes it take longer. The credit bureaus, by law, are allowed to have 30 days to do whatever it is that they do. There is nothing about cleaning credit that is fast. Remember Patience is the key to getting the results that you want.

Q: When I pay off a collection account does that mean that is going to be taken off my record?

A: Paying off a collection doesn't necessary mean that it is removed from your file. It just shows up as a paid collection. Just because you paid it off it is still a negative mark on your report and your score. Your score doesn't improve when you pay it off. With the monitoring system you can see how and what affects your credit score.
